Nursing eligibility

BSc Nursing is a 4-year undergraduate degree course in India. It is registered and controlled by Indian Nursing Council(INC). To take admission in BSc Nursing, one must meet certain criteria as specified by the Indian Nursing Council as well as the institutes where you plan on taking admission. If you can meet them, you may proceed further.

But Due to the lack of proper information regarding Nursing eligibility criteria, many of the applicants get confused and mistakenly apply for positions they are ineligible for. So in this blog, I m going to share all details related to nursing criteria.

Latest BSc Nursing eligibility criteria as prescribed by (INC)

Recently Indian Nursing Council (INC) released eligibility criteria for Nursing colleges. The candidates who are desirous to take admission in B.S c Nursing may please note the following criteria.

AgeMinimum Age – The minimum age for admission in BSc Nursing shall be 17 years on 31st December of the year admission is sought.
Maximum Age – The maximum age for admission is 35 years as prescribed by (INC)
Qualifications10+2 with Science stream (Chemistry, Physics, Biology as compulsory subjects) from a recognized university or school.
Minimum MarksMinimum 45% marks are compulsory for admission.
Medical RequirementsA Candidate must be medically fit for the course.
Reservation

For disabled candidates: 3% of seats are reserved for disabled candidates. The disability of the locomotor is tune to 40% to 50% of the lower extremity.

For SC/ST: 5% of seats are reserved.

Foreign Nationals 12th standard will be obtained by the Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi. Indian Nursing Council should ensure that the qualification and eligibility are equivalent to as prescribed above.
Selection Procedure

1. Merit-Based— Some colleges or universities allow students based on merit. Here are different colleges that directly give students admission on a merit-based.

  • Manipal College of NursingVellore
  • Krupanidhi College of Nursing.
  • SDM College of Nursing.

2. State entrance Test– There are various entrance exams for aspiring candidates to get admission into nursing colleges or universities. Here is a list of the top entrance exams in India for B.S c Nursing.

  •  AFMCN BSc nursing entrance exam.
  • CMC Vellore BSc nursing entrance exam.
  • JIPMER Puducherry BSc nursing entrance exam.

3. Admission Through NEET– Some colleges or state universities consider NEET as the essential eligibility criteria for taking admission in BSc Nursing. Here are the top B. S c Nursing colleges that accept NEET.

  • AIIMS Delhi
  • Christian Medical College, Vellore
  • Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi

There are different nursing colleges & admission to those colleges is provided on the basis of merit or entrance exams. Colleges such as Kol Valley Institute of Nursing, Himachal Pradesh provided admission on the basis of marks obtained in their Class 12, while several other colleges provide entrance exams with certain other requirements such as bonafide and sports quota but their eligibility criteria remain the same almost.

1.  AIIMS BSc Nursing Eligibility Criteria 2022

All India Institute of Medical Sciences, abbreviated to AIIMS, is a medical school founded in 1956. There are 26 centers, four super-specialty centers, an Ayush (mind, body, and spirit) institute, and pre-and para-clinical departments. The institute has a 60 bedded hospital that delivers health services to about 2.5 lakh patients annually.

Following are the complete eligibility norms for AIIMS Nursing Examination 2022:

For BSc Nursing:

  • Age Limit: The candidate applying must have attained the age of 17 as of the 31st December 2021.
  • Qualifications: The candidate must have passed his 10+2 level exam or its equivalent from a recognized board or authority.
  • Medical Stream: Candidate must have passed with the compulsory subjects of Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and English.
  • Minimum Marks: Candidate must have passed with aggregate marks of 45% in Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and English. For ST/SC, the aggregate mark is 45%.
  • Nationality: Applying candidates must be Indian citizens.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences, abbreviated to AIIMS, is a medical school founded inAIIMS conduct their own entrance test. Selection will be done on the basis of scores obtained in the entrance examination.

Personal Interview

All India Institute of Medical Sciences, abbreviated to AIIMS, is a medical school founded inAfter that personal interview was conducted by the institute.

2. CMC Vellore, Pune Nursing Eligibility Criteria 2022

Christian Medical College is a private educational and research institute affiliated with The Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University. Offering a variety of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses, the college focuses on medicine and nursing.

Following are the eligibility criteria for taking admission to CMC Vellore.

  • Age The minimum age for admission in B. Sc Nursing shall be 17 years on 31st December of the year admission is sought. The maximum age for admission is 35 years.
  • Medical Stream– 10+2 with Science stream (Chemistry, Physics, Biology as compulsory subjects from a recognized university or school.
  • Minimum marks– Minimum 45% marks are compulsory for admission

CMC Vellore follows a common registration process for all courses.

The online submission is followed by receipt of the fee and required documents at the university itself.

3. PGIMER Nursing Eligibility Criteria

PGIMER is a public medical university in Chandigarh, India. It is an ‘Institute of National Importance’ offering a variety of educational and training opportunities for medical specialists from all over the country. In 2013 it was ranked as one of India’s top three medical colleges. It is home to the Regional Cancer Centre which offers management and treatment for a number of different types of cancer including blood, skin, musculoskeletal, head and neck, gynecological and breast cancers.

  • Age-The candidate’s age should not be more than 25 years and must not be less than 17 years on 1st September 2021.
  • Medical Stream– 10+2 with Science stream (Chemistry, Physics, Biology as compulsory subjects from a recognized university or school.
  • Minimum marks– Minimum 45% marks are compulsory for admission.

Selection Process

They conduct their own entrance test. Counseling will be performed based on a variety of steps like an interview, document verification, seat allotment, and payment of fees. Candidates will have to bring the following documents at the counseling day:

  • 12th class mark sheet and certificate
  • 10thclass mark sheet and certificate
  • Caste certificate/ category certificate
  • Domicile certificate
  • Passport size photographs etc.

4. Shimla Nursing College Eligibility Criteria

Shimla Nursing College is one of the constituent colleges of Himachal Pradesh. It was affiliated with Himachal Pradesh University.

  • Age– The candidate’s age should not be more than 35 years and must not be less than 17 years on 31st December 2021.
  • Medical Stream– 10+2 with Science stream (Chemistry, Physics, Biology as compulsory subjects from a recognized university or school.
  • Minimum marks– Minimum 45% marks are compulsory for admission
  • Bonafide Himachali: For Nursing Admissions, children of bonafide Himachal Pradesh government employees and state-funded autonomous bodies are eligible to apply for admission to 4-year Diplomas in Nursing offered by state colleges private institutions.
  • For Management Quota seats– Filling up 50% Management Quota Seats in Private un-aided B.Sc. There will be no domicile requirement for nursing colleges in the State of Himachal Pradesh.

5. Kol Valley Institute of Nursing Eligibility Criteria

Kol Valley Institute of Nursing has been a cornerstone in the development of female education. In 2009, it introduced a diploma course for preparation for qualified nurses. Since then, it has been providing growth opportunities to more educated women by offering higher degrees in nursing. Here are Nursing Eligibility Criteria for taking admission to Kol Valley Institute of Nursing.

  • Stream– 10+2 with any stream (English as a compulsory subject from a recognized university or school).
  • Minimum marks– Minimum 40% marks are compulsory for admission.
  • Medical Requirements– The student shall be medically fit.
  • Merit-Based– Admission to G.N.M. is merit-based. But some colleges have their entrance test.

A.N.M Eligibility Criteria

  • Age- The minimum age for admission in A.N.M Nursing shall be 17 years on 31st December of the year admission is sought. The maximum age for admission is 35 years as prescribed by (I.N.C.). For A.N.M. candidates, there is no age bar.
  • Stream– 10+2 with any stream (English as a compulsory subject from a recognized university or school).
  • Minimum marks– Minimum 40% marks are compulsory for admission.
  • Medical Requirements– Student shall be medically fit.
  • Merit Based– Admission to A.N.M. is merit-based. But some colleges have their entrance test.

Is 12th marks important for BSc nursing?

To pursue B. Sc Nursing, you should qualify 10+2 with Science stream (Chemistry, Physics, Biology as compulsory subjects) from a recognized university or school with a minimum of 45% marks as prescribed by Indian Nursing Council (INC).

Is BSc nursing tough to study?

Can I do BSc Nursing after Commerce 12th?

No, you can’t do BSc Nursing after 12th Commerce. But you may opt for A.N.M or G.N.M. For pursuing A.N.M or G.N.M. The candidates must have the following eligibilities.

What is the fee of BSc Nursing?

BSc Nursing fee structure for both government and private colleges, in India, is totally different. The government colleges in India charge around 2,000 to 5,000 INR per year while the private colleges charge 20,00 to 1.2 lakh INR per year. The fee structure of government colleges is far less than that of private colleges.
